OH BOY! OH boy? Oh????
Oh friends... oh boy, do we have a story for you today!!!
This past Monday, we had our 20 week appointment. At this visit, we had a very thorough ultrasound visit. They call this the "anatomy" ultrasound where they check all the limb measurements and the status of brain, bladder, stomach, etc. for each of the babies. We also saw the Dr. just to see how things were going. All the other normal things you do at a 20 week appointment.
The IPs were SO EXCITED to get to see the babies!!! And MAN, the twins put on a show for their parents!!! They were moving and showing out. As we got started with the checks, twin A (the lower one is always twin A as they'll come out first - things I never thought I would know) was getting measured. We saw a big ole head, good sized belly and he had very prominent boy parts which my IPs were very proud of. All boy parents are, right? I had never seen a boy part on ultrasound as I have 3 girls. And I mentioned that I only know what to look for with girl parts! haha! Twin A weighed 11 oz which is 1 oz heavier than the average for 20 weeks. So obviously they're feeding well.
We now move to twin B - got some good measurements! Saw a big ole belly and a great profile view of the face! Twin B had measured at 12 oz! Which was a bit surprising but nothing out of normal. When we go to look at the sex of twin B to confirm the boy status, I looked over at the technician because I knew what I saw - and it was not a boy part...
Let's remind ourselves that we have known because of all the testing the IPs did before we got started that we were being implanted with two boy embryos.
Now... I say out loud - uh, that's not a boy part. The technician agrees and confirms (after looking for no less than 30 minutes) that this indeed is a girl!!!! Now... to say the least, we all 4 in that room were in utter shock. The IPs got on the phone with the clinic immediately to get started on confirming what was going on. My IPs, which had said from the start, they will be happy no matter what the sex is, they just want a happy/healthy baby!
So fast forward to the next day, IPs have confirmed with the clinic and hospital where we did implantation that we do in fact have a boy and girl. They just happen to get the wrong sex when they thawed the embryos. And my IPs are so happy now knowing they are going to have a boy and a girl!!! All's well that ends well, I suppose. But man, it makes for a HUGE SURPRISE and a great story!!!
So, the IPs have names for their bundles of Joy... They are already posting updates with a super hero outfit and a girl onesie and bow!!! I'm just in love with how happy and excited they are about their babies!!!! They make this process so easy to do for them.
So. I know in my last update I said it's simple math, but 2 is DEFINITELY more than 1? This is still true. If you go look at symptoms for the moms on what they're experiencing at week 20, you can check every single box off that list.

- Heartburn, yep
- Headaches, yep
- Swelling, yep!
- Shortness of breath - DOUBLE yep!
- All the other weird things that you don't talk about in public - YEP YEP YEP!
I do have more energy now than before, but all that means is I'm not falling asleep on the couch before Mady goes to bed every night! I am sleeping better. the Headaches are not as bad as before, but still happen.
Mady and I still are being well taken care of by the boyfriend, the big girls and my other friends who randomly will cook for me or do other things to help out and I can tell you all - I'm eternally grateful for any and all kindness that is shown to us. If I don't mention it on a regular basis, please know from the bottom of my heart how appreciative I am!!!!
